The book of Ruth is a beautiful story which takes place in a very ugly time.  In the time of the Judges, the people of Israel were in a seemingly endless cycle of unfaithfulness, rescue by the Lord, repentance, and then more unfaithfulness.  The last line of the book of Judges says it well: “In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”

In the midst of that time, an incredible story of ruin, loss, faithfulness, and redemption played out; at the center of that story were three people: Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz.  Their actions not only continue to speak to us today but also help us understand God’s greater work of redemption through Jesus Christ.
