Hopes and Fears

“The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.”

This line from O Little Town Of Bethlehem is both truthful and profound. Human beings live with a curious combination of both hopes and fears. We have hopes for our families, for our work, for our communities, and even our world. But we also have fears. Will I succeed? Will I be healthy? Do I have enough resources? What dangers lie ahead? Does my life have significance?

The song and the Scriptures remind us that it is in Jesus Christ that all of life’s hopes are finally satisfied. And it is in Jesus Christ that all of our fears are met and defeated.
