Thank You: Learning To Live With Gratitude

Thank You (2) – 1 Kings 21.1-16

This message is about the first enemy of gratitude: entitlement.  Entitlement is the mindset or belief that we are deserving of certain things in life, that life should go a certain way, or that we are owed something, simply because of who we are.  Entitlement, in many ways, is the polar opposite of gratitude.  Last week we saw how gratitude is central to our faith and our worship of the Lord.  This week, we see how entitlement endangers our devotion to the Lord and even creates the possibility of great destruction.

There are few passages in the Bible that better capture the spirit of entitlement than the story of Ahab and Jezebel as they take away not only the vineyard of a man named Naboth but also his life as well.  In this message, we discover that entitlement overvalues our own importance, undervalues what God provides, devalues other people, and ignores the reality of our spiritual condition.
