In the first three chapters of the book of Revelation, Jesus spoke directly to seven churches. Each message begins the same way, saying “These are the words…”. What follows are words of both comfort and challenge. Before John tells us what Jesus said, he describes what he saw when he looked and saw Jesus standing before him. This was not the earthly Jesus but the risen Lord who reigns at the right hand of God. For a Church that was suffering persecution, this was exactly the vision of Jesus that they needed. And it’s still the one we need today. In this message, we find that God offers us clarity, comfort, and confidence as we face the challenge of moving forward in faithfulness despite the circumstances we find ourselves in or the opposition we might encounter.
